Disc Data Backup and Data Security

Data Security is a wide ranging subject, ranging from the protection of central servers from hardware failure and “disasters”, to the often reported loss of laptops or accidental deletion of data by users.

We offer a range of technologies to protect and secure your data across a range of platforms, with the key areas being
  • Data backup and restore of servers and PC’s (including laptops and PDA’s)
  • Data encryption to protect data from unauthorised access if lost

Data Backup
Tape is an increasingly outdated solution for data backup - slow, expensive and often unreliable. Disc backup is quickly becoming the preferred option using dedicated appliances, offering hard drive speeds. The SonicWALL Continuous Data Protection range of appliances can flexibly deliver end-to-end backup and recovery for small offices and home offices, as well as distributed-environment branch offices and remote offices. In each of these environments, the CDP protects not only mission-critical data, but also the systems that access that data, such as Windows® Small Business Server, Exchange, SQL Server and Active Directory.

A software client on each protected device communicated over a encrypted link with a CDP device, automatically backing up changed data on an agree schedule. In turn, the CDP can replicate its data to a second CDP hosted off-site, providing peace of mind should the site be lost. There are several deployment scenarios which make use of Clearstream’s off-site CDP service:

Small Office/Home Office (SOHO) Scenario
In this SOHO scenario, data on desktops and laptops is transparently backed up to the CDP appliance, which is then automatically backed up to using the CDP Offsite Data Backup Service using SonicWALL’s state-of-the-art Secure DataCenter. Additionally, the latest version of backup data can be stored to a Local Archive on a USB drive for added disaster protection, and complete system images of all workstations can be written on a secondary external media for Bare Metal Recovery.

Remote Office/Branch Office (ROBO) Scenario
In this ROBO scenario, data and applications from workstations and servers at each remote office have been burned to CDs for Bare Metal Recovery. Data from workstations and servers is transparently and automatically transmitted to the local CDP appliance at headquarters. Mobile users’ data is transparently and securely transmitted over SonicWALL SSL VPN to the branch office CDP appliance. The backup is then securely transmitted via CDP Site-to-Site Backup to a secondary CDP appliance at the central office. Additionally, the latest version of backup data can stored to a Local Archive on a USB drive for added disaster protection.

Distributed Remote Office Scenario
To further extend and scale-up ROBO deployments, a single primary CDPappliance can aggregate and centralize backups from multiple CDPappliances at multiple remote offices via SonicWALL Site-to-Site Backup.
